Artist or merchant? Creator or seller? Learn from the story of Nash Vejar, a graphic artist who, motivated by Social Piper, made the leap from hobby to side hustle and has started selling her work. We sat down to talk about her first months as an entrepreneur and the challenges and fears she has faced on her new path. Join us to discover how to dedicate yourself to creating and letting Social Piper share your work.
Why did you start using Social Piper?
I had been sharing my paintings on social media for a while, so I finally reunited the courage and decided to get serious as a business. I began to customize sneakers, clothes and accessories with my art and I realized that only my close contacts followed me on Instagram. That’s when I found Social Piper.
My initial goal was to gradually make myself known. The truth is that I was never very good with social media. Although in the past I had my own blog and wrote on it, I did it for myself. Thinking of writing and publishing for someone else was not only difficult for me, actually I was terrified by the idea. I didn’t know where to start. And here came the first two Social Piper tools that I worked with.
The scheduler helped me know not only on which days but at what time it was convenient for me to share my content. I can also leave my posts ready at any time to be socialized later. Sometimes it happens that I only have time during midnight. No one is going to see my post at that time, it doesn’t suit me. But leaving my content prepared, I can forget about it and trust that Social Piper will publish it at the best time.
You mentioned that there were two tools that you used the most within Social Piper at the beginning. What was the other tool that you combined with the scheduler?
It may be difficult to imagine but although I consider myself a creative person and dedicate myself to artistic production, I really use the creative center tool a lot. Although I’m sure I don’t use it in a traditional way, it works wonders for me.
Truthfully, I like to generate my own content photographs. I design the sneakers or the sweatshirt or the bag; and then I like to think about the place where I want to take the photo; how am I going to make the composition and finally how do I want my final image to look like. The problem is that sometimes your ideas just won’t flow and you don’t know how to reinvent yourself. That’s where the creative hub becomes the ace up on my sleeve.
I go there to explore the options that Piper recommends to me. What options are there for my line of business? What is being proposed to my competitors? That helps me find a lot of new ideas. Also, I don’t always have time to generate the final images. I can use the proposals from the creative center and add my logo directly.
What has changed in your interaction with your social media accounts?
Probably what surprises me the most is that it has changed what I think about my artistic production. I decided to sell my products, which turned my account into a business one. Social Piper helped me distance my identity as an artist from my identity as an entrepreneur. The important thing is not just the product I am selling, but how I am reaching my potential customers. I stopped feeling pressure or interpreting reactions and comments as personal validation. This is a business and I have learned to see it as such.
I am no longer afraid to work my social media. I don’t have to spend a lot of time on them and the knowledge is brought to the table by Social Piper. I can trust his recommendations and I don’t have to think about it. I’ve already learned what my strong days and hours are and if they change I know Piper will let me know. Also the truth is that even if Piper told me: “You have to post on Sunday at seven at night” I would forget. I’d rather have Piper take over publishing when it’s our turn to publish. I can take care of other areas of this business without worrying about social media.
Another area that I have learned to master is advertising. Investing in an advertising campaign is something much simpler than it seems. It’s such an alien process that I don’t think anyone would try it alone. I could say that Social Piper led me step by step to generate my first investment in my first Facebook ad campaign. I honestly think I never would have done it on my own initiative. There is still resistance to very specific actions such as entering our bank information and making decisions that involve money. Doing it through the platform gave me that additional layer of security and certainty that I needed to start targeting content.
How interesting to see the evolution of your social media from personal to business equipped even with advertising campaigns. Has the way you relate to your community changed as well?
Definitely the confidence that I have to interact with my audience was grown. As I mentioned previously, through Social Piper I managed to separate my personal figure from the professional one. It has helped me a lot to focus on what is really important; the people who are interacting with my accounts. Having the opportunity to answer all comments from the same platform eliminates the distraction of the networks themselves.
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, it’s very easy to get distracted. Social Piper puts all my pending comments together and with the same level of relevance. I also have to admit that I am still impressed with how my business presence has grown. I remember that my Instagram account was really small, and suddenly people that I didn’t know from anywhere began to arrive. Of course it was not overnight, but I can say that the growth has been constant and I’m happy to see it evolve.
